Clean Energy

The clean energy revolution starts here

Join us in calling on Congress to repower America through a new clean energy economy. Sign the petition using the form to the right.

Petition Text

I support dramatic efforts to usher in a new clean energy economy and cut global warming pollution. The American Clean Energy and Security Act would require all new buildings to be green buildings within a generation. Please support this legislation and take every opportunity to strengthen it and deliver more clean energy for America.

Tell Mayor Castro: More Wind and Solar, Not Nukes

Every dollar invested in yesterday's energy sources is a dollar not invested in solar and wind power, and a step backward.

Tell Mayor Castro that San Antonio deserves a clean energy future, with solar panels on our rooftops, lower electric bills, and good-paying local jobs -- not more nukes.

Hold BP Accountable

The oil spill from BP's drill rig continues to unfold in the Gulf of Mexico, with no end in sight to the damage to wildlife, fishermen and coastal communities. And while the cost of this damage could run as high as $14 billion, a federal law currently caps liability for oil companies like BP at only $75 million.

Every dime of liability that BP -- and Halliburton and Transocean, collectively -- avoid is a dime of damage that is picked up by us, the taxpaying public.

So let's tell Congress -- "not one dime" of taxpayer money to pay for BP's mess.

In light of BP's disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, I am writing to urge you to remove the cap on oil companies' liability for damage from oil spills. Because of the leak from BP's drill rig, we are now seeing pelicans covered in oil, and the lives of fishermen and coastal communities upended. And scientists are now saying that this is just the beginning.

We cannot let companies like BP off the hook. And yet, a cap on liability for oil spills does just that. Every dime of liability avoided by BP is a dime of damage that we, the taxpayers, wind up paying.

Please pass legislation now to remove any cap on oil companies' liability for spills.
