Dear Legislator,

Texas has what it takes to be a world leader in solar power.

With the right solar policies on the books, we can protect our environment and put Texans back to work with new solar jobs in manufacturing, construction and energy technology. Texas is already the national leader in wind energy – producing nearly three times as much as the runner-up, Iowa. The secret of wind's success? A strong homegrown resource coupled with smart energy policies.

Please work with your colleagues to pass legislation to create a 3,000 megawatt (MW) solar incentive program and establish a 4,000 MW diversified clean electricity goal. 3,000 MWs of solar could power 813,000 homes in Texas by 2020, creating an estimated 45,000 to 90,000 jobs over the life of the program. Please also support policies directing utilities to pay consumers a fair price for surplus electricity generated with solar panels and prohibiting homeowners associations from blocking solar.
