This past week, Environment Texas staffers, Alejandro Savransky and Stephen Grace, visited Washington, DC to meet with our federal representatives and their staff.
Lobbying for our Repower America campaign, we asked members of the Texas Congressional Delegation to support President Obama's green economic recovery plan, which included almost $80 billion in investments in clean energy, energy efficiency, and public transportation, and to keep this plan as green as possible.
We were able to meet with members from different parts of our state and across the ideological spectrum. Congressman Ralph Hall, a Republican from the Dallas area, invited us into his office and offered us a Dr. Pepper, and Congressman Charlie Gonzalez, a Democrat from San Antonio, cleared some time from his busy schedule to sit down and meet with us. Here are some pictures from our trip:

Although we were hopeful about getting a couple of Texas Republican votes in support of the green economic recovery plan, only Texas Democrats supported it. Still, the trip allowed us to build relationships with decision makers and voice our members' environmental concerns to their elected representatives.
