Parks, Open Spaces, Wild Places

In 2008, the Austin Chronicle presented Environment Texas with a "Best of Austin" award for our work.

Clean Energy

  • We helped convince the Public Utility Commission of Texas to invest $5 billion to build transmission lines to bring clean wind power to Texas cities, a move which will help the state annually conserve approximately 17 billion gallons of water, reduce global warming pollution by as much as 16 percent, and reduce smog pollution by up to 13 percent.

  • With the release of our report "Lone Star Power: How Texas Businesses Can Supply The World With Solar Energy," we helped make the case that investing in solar power will create jobs and promote economic development in Texas.

Clean Air

  • We helped turn out dozens of Houstonians to an EPA hearing in support of tougher clean air standards.

Clean Water

  • Our report "Wasting Our Waterways: Industrial Toxic Pollution And The Unfulfilled Promise Of The Clean Water Act" found that industrial facilities dumped 13 million pounds of toxic chemicals into Texas’ waterways in 2007.

Training Student Leaders

  • We have trained hundreds of students in the skills of grassroots organizing and advocacy and placed dozens into internships with top environmental leaders across the state.
