Environment Texas Winter Report 2006

Profile: Perdernales

When the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s budget for new land acquisition is finally restored, the area around Pedernales Falls State Park is on the short list for protection. About an hour west Austin in the Texas Hill Country, the park contains eight miles of the Pedernales River, including the impressive falls for which the park is named, a canyon, wildflowers and cacti, and countless recreation opportunities.

The park is also home to abundant wildlife including white-tailed deer, rabbits, armadillos and the endangered golden-cheeked warbler. For more information about the park, call (830) 868-7304.
