Summertime is my favorite time of year, and not just because I love to hit the beach. For Environment Texas, summer is the season of citizen outreach, when we talk with thousands of Texans all over the state about our work and enlist your help.
From Austin to Houston, San Antonio to Dallas, and numerous towns in between, every summer the staff of Environment Texas go door-to-door to recruit Texas citizens in our effort to win substantial victories for the environment.
Summer is the time when we take on the biggest challenges of the year. We know that throughout Texas, there are citizens like you who will join in our effort to protect Texas’ environment, who want to flex their civic muscle to save our natural treasures and make our state healthier. Year after year, the citizens of Texas never let us down. And together, we’ve won important victories for our environment.
The goal of this year’s summer outreach effort is to protect Texas natural areas like Barton Springs and our state parks. These treasures provide us with clean, plentiful water and beautiful places to take our families for a swim or picnic, and they give us a glimpse into Texas’ disappearing wilderness. But with development eating up an average of 20 acres an hour in Texas, our natural areas are increasingly at risk.
Our program staff in Austin is busy making the case for protecting these special places to local governments and the Texas Legislature, but time and time again we’ve seen that it’s the grassroots organizing that really puts us over the top.
Thank you, again, for your support of Environment Texas. And have a fun, safe and healthy summer.
