Water Pollution Report Released (new window)

The group Environment Texas has released a new report about water Pollution in Texas. It says more than 13 million pounds of toxic chemicals were discharged into rivers, lakes, and streams across the state in 2007.

The report says those chemicals include lead, dioxin, and mercury.

"It's very disturbing that, you know, 37 years after the Clean Water Act was passed, polluters continue to use our waterways as their personal dumping grounds for chemicals and so we need to be enforcing this law and restriction this pollution going into the places," said Luke Metzger of Environment Texas.

The group says the problem is a national one and wants the law extended to all waterways including small streams.
