Report to be released on increase of extreme rainstorms (new window)Environment Texas, an environmental advocacy organization, is planning Tuesday to release a new report documenting the increase in the frequency of extreme rainstorms during the past 60 years in El Paso. "Recent extreme rainstorms, such as the storms that hit El Paso this summer make it one of the most susceptible cities in Texas to extreme downpours and among the most flood-prone regions in North America," a news release from the group said. "This is highlighted as part of a larger trend consistent with scientists' predictions of global warming resulting in more severe weather." The group has a news conference planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tom Lea Park in El Paso to release the report. |
