Field Organizer

We all want clean air, clean water and open spaces. But in Texas, from our disappearing natural areas to urban smog, our environment faces some serious problems. To solve them, we need independent research and tough-minded advocacy, especially when powerful special interests stand in the way of environmental progress. That’s the idea behind Environment Texas. We’re a nonpartisan, nonprofit, environmental advocacy organization. Our staff of advocates, lobbyists and organizers speak out and take action at the local, state and national levels to improve the quality of our environment and our lives.

The Field Organizer will work closely with Environment Texas Policy Advocates to set overall organizational priorities and plan campaign goals, strategies, and tactics. The Field Organizer will be responsible for organizing a base of support for the organization's policy goals and for the organization in general.

Responsibilities include:

- Building a political network: Build coalitions with local, state, and national environmental and public health organizations, identify and mobilize concerned citizens, and reach out to new constituencies to build our base of support in the state.

- Generating media attention and build public awareness: Organize at least one major news conference per month, meet with editorial boards and reporters throughout the region, conduct TV and radio interviews, and generate opinion editorials and letters to the editor.

- Lobbying decision-makers: Expand our political base in each state legislative district. Demonstrate broad public support for our positions through letter writing drives, e-mail activism, and district meetings with legislators and other decision-makers

- Building the organization: Work with and build our membership locally, recruit and manage staff, and raise the funds needed to forward our agenda.

- Student Organizing: Recruit and train students as part of the Environment Texas Leadership Program and organize an annual leadership conference.
