Future of wind power threatened

As tax incentives expire, jobs in jeopardy

“It would be very difficult to build these projects profitably without these credits,” executive director Jeffrey Clark ofThe Wind Coalition said. “These credits make it possible to have this development now. If we don’t have the development now, the development is going to go elsewhere.”

One full-size wind turbine is capable of providing all of the electricity needed to power 500 homes, according to the American Wind Energy Association . Turbines like this could be the key to America’s sustainable energy future.

But that future is in jeopardy until Congress takes action.

“2013 is going to be a record bad year for new wind projects and there’s nothing to undo that,” said Walter Hornaday, president of Cielo Wind Power .

This affects Texas more than anyone, because when it comes to wind power, Texas the leads the nation.
