Groups Announce TV Ad Campaign to Build Support for Solar Power in Legislature

Three leading Texas environmental organizations announced a new television advertising campaign today aimed at getting the Texas Legislature to support measures to make Texas a world solar leader. The commercials will run for a week in the Abilene, Dallas/Fort Worth, Tyler/Longview, and Wichita Falls viewing areas and call on the Legislature to support incentives to install solar panels on the equivalent of a half-million Texas rooftops by 2020.

At least $200 million in federal funding for energy efficiency measures in Texas hinges on the state adopting the latest building codes for energy efficiency, according to an analysis by Environment Texas of the economic recovery package recently signed in to law by President Obama. The building codes would require home builders to improve the minimum efficiency of new residences by approximately fifteen percent.

PUC Report: Texas Can Meet Growing Energy Needs with Efficiency Measures

A new report commissioned by the state Public Utilities Commission shows that Texas could reduce electric usage by 23% if utilities invest more in efficiency measures, saving Texans as much $11.9 billion on their electric bills.
